AMSTERDAM — Alderman Rob Oudkerk was warned two months ago not to use the computer supplied to him by the city council to visit porn sites, a spokesperson for Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen said Wednesday.

Oudkerk, however, denies he was reprimanded for viewing sex sites on the computer in his home, newspaper De Volkskrant reported.

Rob Oudkerk - in trouble again

The often controversial Social Affairs Alderman for the Dutch capital landed himself in hot water after a newspaper published surprisingly frank admissions he allegedly made during an interview.

Journalist Heleen van Royen of Amsterdam-based newspaper Het Parool wrote that Oudkerk told her over drinks that he had snorted cocaine to celebrate the New Year.

He is also alleged to have told her that he had visited brothels and after finishing work he liked to relax by surfing to pornographic sites on his official city council computer.

In response to the publication of newspaper column, Oudkerk wrote to Mayor Cohen and denied that he had used cocaine.

He said to do so would be illegal and the people of Amsterdam had a right to know that he, as an elected official, adhered to law.

He said in the letter that he would not respond to the other allegations, saying they were "personal matters". He also claims he spoke to the journalist in general terms about the pitfalls faced by public figures.

Van Royen has said she is annoyed that Oudkerk is denying things he had told her openly days earlier. She has also warned that another person was present during her conversation with him and that she may return to the subject in her next column.

Cohen's spokesperson said that a technical examination had confirmed two months ago that Oudkerk had visited porn sites on the computer, which was on loan from the local authority.

The Mayor then contacted fellow Labour PvdA member, Oudkerk, to admonish him not to use city property for private purposes, the spokesperson said.

An alderman in Schiedam, near Rotterdam, was sacked last year for viewing porn sites on his local authority computer.

Oudkerk caused huge embarrassment for the PvdA 2002, and unintentionally inspired a Dutch hit song for a Moroccan musician.

The alderman was caught on camera during coverage of the counting of votes in the local election on March 2002 telling Cohen "kut Marokanen", or Moroccan cunts, were to blame for Labour's bad performance.

Maroccan and Turkish immigrants were up to then traditionally seen as staunch Labour supporters.
