Football club Ajax is likely to play a benefit match for the victims of Japan’s quake and tsunami when they meet Shimizu S-Pulse in the Amsterdam ArenA on 13 March.

The fixture is to be part of a benefit evening organised by the Dutch Red Cross. Ajax has already approved the plan, as have the municipality and the Amsterdam ArenaA, and will finalise the plan with the Red Cross on Monday. Ajax will enter the fray with a selection from its first and second squads.

The plan was developed together with Shimizu S-Pulse coach Afshin Ghotbi, who knows many people in Dutch football circles. Due to the earthquake and tsunami Japan’s competition will not resume until 23 April.   cl
