More than 400 buses are ferrying thousands of football fans to Rotterdam’s De Kuip stadium for this evenings KNVB cup final between FC Twente and Ajax.

It’s the first of two showdowns between the Amsterdam and Enschede clubs. Next week they’ll be meeting again the Amsterdam ArenA to settle which will be crowned champion of the Eredivisie. Adding to the suspense, Ajax was last year’s KNVB Cup winner while FC Twente is the current Eredivisie champion.

FC Twente last won the KNVB cup in 2001. In the past ten years, the Amsterdam club has taken the cup home four times. Since 2001, FC Twente has made it to the final twice, but lost on both occasions.

It’s the first time FC Twente and Ajax have faced each other in the KNVB cup final since 1979. Then Ajax won 3-0 in a replay after the first match ended 1-1.
