THE HAGUE – The cabinet and social partners have agreed on a date for a summit on employment participation. Social Affairs Minister Piet Hein Donner has announced that the summit will be held on 27 June.

The aim of the summit is to find ways of getting more people working. Dismissal legislation, job training and severance packages will all be discussed. The trade unions are fiercely opposed to any relaxation of dismissal legislation and do not expect it would have a positive effect on the labour market.

Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Deputy Prime Minister Wouter Bos have both said they are pleased that the summit has finally been organised.
