THE HAGUE – The ministry for home affairs and the unions have agreed in principle on a new collective labour agreement (CAO) for the police.

The terms of the agreement will be announced later today once Minister Ter Horst has approved the accord. The agreement still has to be put before the members of the police unions as well.

The parties attended meetings over the past two days led by mediator Doekle Terpstra. The chairpersons of the police unions did not want to make any predictions last night on whether the union members will approve the accord.

The new CAO will apply to more than 50,000 police personnel.
