Age of first-time mothers stabilises

11 June 2007 VOORBURG - The average age at which a woman has her first child is no longer rising. In 2006 the average age of a first-time mother was 29.4 years of age, the same as in 2004 and 2005. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) announced this on Monday.

VOORBURG - The average age at which a woman has her first child is no longer rising. In 2006 the average age of a first-time mother was 29.4 years of age, the same as in 2004 and 2005. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) announced this on Monday.

The average age for a first-time mother in 1970 was a little over 24. The age of first-time mothers rose rapidly, especially in the 1990s, as women started studying longer and working more.
