Additional checks on containers from Japan

As of Friday, containers from Japan arriving in the port of Rotterdam will undergo additional checks for radio-activity after customs officers failed to stop a contaminated container. All containers will now be checked twice before being released.

On Thursday, a contaminated container was not stopped by a customs officer. One of his colleagues later noticed that the alarm had actually gone off, but by that time the container had already been released to a hauliers’.
