AMSTERDAM - Amsterdam is back in the top five of the best business locations in Europe. In 2006 the capital ended sixth in the rankings but this year it moved up one place again. In 2005 Amsterdam dropped out of the top five.

This emerged from the annual survey by real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield that was published on Tuesday. The capital is back in the top five because of its transportation network and its multilingual residents.  Amsterdam also scored better this year with regard to the supply of highly qualified staff and telecommunication facilities.

As in the preceding years, the top three locations are London, Paris and Frankfurt respectively. Barcelona comes fourth. It is striking that the three cities that rose most, Geneva, Lyon and Manchester, are not capital cities.

These past years the position of Amsterdam had been dropping on lists like this one from Cushman & Wakefield. In an attempt to turn this around the city launched an international marketing campaign in 2004 with the slogan I AMsterdam.
