THE NETHERLANDS - More than 200 Dutch citizens have applied to the European Space Agency for a job as an astronaut. The 175 men and 30 women are competing with more than 8,000 candidates from other European countries.

The ESA began a fresh campaign to recruit new astronauts a couple of months ago.

It is the first time since 1992, when Dutchman André Kuipers was selected, that aspiring space travellers have been able to apply for the job.
