In the Europa League, Alkmaar’s AZ has won 2-1 at home against FC Sheriff from Moldavia without playing particularly well. AZ’s first goal came just 15 minutes into the game when Sheriff’s goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov played the ball into Icelander Johann Berg Guodmundsson’s feet. The equalizer appeared to happen just as accidentally, when Hertor Moreno slipped a pass into the net. A header by Kew Jaliens at the end of the match put the Dutch team ahead.

Meanwhile Eindhoven's PSV drew 1-all at home against Italy's Sampdoria. Balázs Dzsudzsák scored in the last minute, after Fabrizio Cacciatore put the Italians in the lead half way through the first half.
