AMSTERDAM – ABN Amro is keeping its options open. The bank is giving British bank Barclays until Friday evening to bring out a takeover bid. After that it will talk with Fortis, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Banco Santander

The three banks want to sell and split up the Dutch part of ABN Amro. This is putting extra pressure on negotiations with Barclays. Experts say that Barclays will not be able to put as much money on the table as a consortium of the other three.

ABN Amro's share price rose once again on Tuesday, by about 2 percent to EUR 36.40.
