AMSTERDAM - ABN Amro is going to enter talks with the banking consortium of Fortis, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Santander about the trio's most recent, improved bid.

ABN Amro announced this on Wednesday. The bank promises it will not be selling off any more major corporate divisions.

The consortium has offered EUR 71.1 billion (EUR 38.40 a share) for ABN Amro. That is 14 percent more than a rival bid from British bank Barclays. The consortium improved its bid this week by increasing the share of the bid in cash to 93 percent.
