VOORBURG – Almost a third of the working population is highly educated. In 1996 that figure was only 25 percent. People with a high level of education are primarily employed in non-commercial service provision, like education and the healthcare sector, according to figures that Statistics Netherlands (CBS) published on Monday.

Less than half of those who have completed higher education work in the business sector. This despite the fact that the business sector employs two-thirds of the total working population.

Almost 80 percent of workers in education have followed tertiary education. That figure is 40 percent in the healthcare and wellness sector.
