The authorities in the Dutch port of Rotterdam have seized a total of 509 kilos of cocaine. The drugs, which were hidden in three containers loaded with furniture, gear boxes and diesel engines, have an estimated street value of 18 million euros. Four men and two women have been arrested in connection with the case.

In June, sniffer dogs discovered 405 kilos of cocaine in a container loaded with furniture from Ecuador. The remainder was discovered in September and October in containers shipped from Colombia.

The subsequent police investigation revealed that a shipping office in Rotterdam was used to import the cocaine. Companies were established in both the Netherlands and Colombia to give the shipments the appearance of legitimacy.

The drug bust was made by the HARC team, which is a collaboration between the harbour police, customs officials, tax department, Public Prosecutors' Office and national police.
