The last walkers have crossed the finish of the Nijmegen four-day walking event.

Nijmegen - They were given a heroes' welcome in the Sint Anna Street, which is always renamed Via Gladiola for the occasion.
The last day began at four o'clock and the first walkers reached the around 9.30am. In all, some 37,000 of the 41,000 walkers completed the race.

As usual, with the end in sight, few gave up on the last on the last day itself.

Following a false alarm earlier in the week, a case of Mexican flu among the competitors has now been confirmed.

The woman, a British soldier, has been hospitalised. A Dutch displaying flu symptoms has been sent home as a precaution, though it's not yet clear if he has been infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus.
