AMSTERDAM – A spokesperson reports that police arrested at least 25 people in the centre of Bergen op Zoom. The arrests were part of a large police action aimed at a criminal organisation involved in money laundering and drug trade.

The Midden and West Brabant police forces say this was “the largest investigation they had ever undertaken.”

Three-hundred officers from the Serious Crime unit, the district investigation service, the regional anti-drug crime team (Courage team), the fiscal investigation service (FIOD-ECD) and the national criminal investigation service were involved in the action.

The police action was launched partly in response to complaints from residents about problems resulting from drug dealing in the city centre.
