AMSTERDAM -- The 2010 edition of the Tour de France will start in the Netherlands.

After Germany withdrew its candidacy on Thursday to host the start of the race, the Dutch cities of Utrecht and Rotterdam were the only two remaining candidates.

Cycling journalist Jeroen Wielaert initially proposed Utrecht as a host in 2002.

In October, the organisers will decide which city will host the Tour.

The 2009 competition will begin in Monaco.
