1 year on Dutch crash boy doing well
Ruben, the Dutch boy who survived the Libyan air crash a year ago today, is doing better physically than could have been hoped. His doctors say his better than expected recovery is thanks in part to the high standard of the treatment he received in hospital in Libya immediately after the crash.
Ruben, now 10, lost his parents and brother when the Afriqiyah Airlines flight from South Africa to Libya crashed shortly before its scheduled landing at Tripoli airport. The disaster claimed 103 lives and Ruben was the only survivor.
He has been taken in by his aunt and her family. She says Ruben will not be attending the forthcoming commemoration of the plane crash as she does not want photographs of him to be published in an effort to protect his privacy.
