Photos of work at alternative art fair Kunstvlaai (Art Pie International), now allied with Art Amsterdam (previously KunstRai). This year's Kunstvlaai runs from 10 - 18 May at seven locations on the Westergasfabriek grounds.

Kunstvlaai was conceived in 1997 as a reaction to the then named KunstRai (now Art Amsterdam) by smaller and independent artists who felt marginalised; excluded from the larger, 'official' art fair because they were not involved with the established, commercial galleries.  The alternative Kunstvlaai (a play of words to mock KunstRai and literally meaning Art pie) took off and now has become the official fringe accompaniment to Art Amsterdam with both events supporting one another. In 2010, plans are afoot to organise Art Pie International simultaneously in Istanbul and Shanghai as well as – hopefully – in Amsterdam if the city council vote in favour.
