Can you give us a brief description of your business and how it is going?
Your Personal Manager (YPM) is the combination of the professional talents and personal passions of a Dutch guy and an American girl. We are specialists in planning, management and organization. What needs to be done, we do! We bring our exceptional capacity for realizing creative vision, our global professional network, and, perhaps most importantly, an open mind to each project. You name it, we'll take care of it.
YPM is doing very well! But don't worry... we are always open to new clients and projects!
What do you like about doing business in your country of residence?
The Netherlands is the most tolerable country there is and we work in the capital, Amsterdam, so what's not to like? Our clients consists of both Dutch and International companies which feels like we're working with the best of both worlds. People are open-minded, approachable and creative here in Amsterdam, whether they're Dutch or expat which makes doing business here fun and fulfilling.
What do you find most frustrating about doing business in your country of residence?
What frustrates me the most is the decision-making process but that doesn't necessarily have to do with the Dutch. I'm an ambitious person and like to get things done as quickly as possible so if it takes longer than I expect, it can be frustrating. Patience is a virtue.
What hurdles did you encounter when setting up?
The most difficult obstacle for us was focusing on our core business. As project managers, we can do a lot of different things for different clients and that can sometimes be confusing. Our website helped a lot in the sense that it shows pictures and examples of our work giving our clients the visuals of our capabilities.
How has the economic crisis affected your business?
The crisis has helped us tremendously. So many employees were let go over the past few years that companies and their teams were left with more work than they could handle. Thanks to our flexible services, clients can hire us when needed and don't have to worry about exceeding headcount.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs setting up business in your country of residence?
Amsterdam is the place to try anything! If you have a good idea there are plenty of people in this city and the rest of the Netherlands that can help develop your idea.
How does running a business in your current country of residence compare to running a business in other countries that you have lived in?
I've never had my own business anywhere else but I never dared to dream about doing something like this until I moved here.
