Can you give us a brief description of your business and how it is going?
I am a documentary-style wedding photographer based in Groningen, and I have been fortunate enough to book my first wedding within a month of opening! I am also a freelance documentary photographer, and I am in the planning phase of three long-term stories I am very excited about.
What do you like about doing business in the Netherlands?
There are a lot of resources made available through the Kamer van Koophandel, including tax advice and the starters seminars, in addition to the thorough initial consultation for categorizing my business.
What do you find most frustrating about doing business in the Netherlands?
Compared with the wedding industry in the United States, it is more difficult to find other businesses in this field with whom to affiliate.
What hurdles did you encounter when setting up?
Whether to take out insurance has been the most looming question, since the business needs to demonstrate profitability before feeling comfortable with that investment. Since photographers insure themselves one piece of equipment at a time, that will more likely be my approach.
