This controversial court drama directed by Otto Preminger (US, 1959), is about an army lieutenant (Ben Gazzara) whose wife (Lee Remick), tells him she has been raped by a bartender – who he then kills. However, the police surgeon can find no evidence that his wife has been raped. His (small town) lawyer – played by James Stewart – has to unravel the series of events to get to the truth of the matter.
