Crowds of expatriate job seekers attended Expatica's latest edition of the Job Fair on Saturday 20 May in Amsterdam.

Once again the impressive World Trade Centre, Amsterdam provided the ideal location for the "i am not a tourist" Job Fair for Internationals. A large gathering of fair visitors came from various parts of the globe and were given a new perspective on finding a career in the Netherlands.

Buzzing atmosphere

With the glorious Spring season in full bloom, attendees were feeling energetic and keen to visit the informative and engaging exhibitor stands and presentations at the fair. English and multilingual speakers were welcomed by a wide range of friendly and professional exhibitors, providing information on current vacancies and on the job market. Event sponsors and exhibitors such as, Randstad Multilingual Recruitment, Together Abroad, EURES, YER, and Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center Maastricht provided visitors with the chance to discuss their search criteria one-on-one.

Recruitment agencies, employment professionals and business' currently seeking new candidates provided internationals with detailed information regarding current vacancies, and the chance to explore new opportunities. Large audiences attended various presentations, including ‘CV writing according to the Dutch standards’ by Together Abroad, and ‘IT Market & The Netherlands, where to go?' by YER IT.

The fair acted successfully as a diverse platform of information to attendees from various fields, whether new to the employment ladder or reaching the final step. Fair visitors were able to provide recruiters with a digital copy of their CV with ease and were given access to specialised presentations.

Job Fair visitors

Positive feedback

Members of the Expatica team were present on the day to provide additional support to job seekers. Marketing Consultant and International Account Manager, Stanislav comments, "The fair was amazing. There were visitors coming from countries all over the world. Some were planning to relocate, some were already living in the Netherlands, but were planning a career change. Even though there were many job hunters out there, the atmosphere remained relaxed and you could speak to all the companies. I definitely recommend visiting next year!"

Expatica's Sales Director, Hans found the event to be "a beautiful day, outside and inside! A positive ambiance and good mix between companies and recruitment agencies."

Members of the Expatica team were present at a central exhibition stand throughout the day, providing expats with an opportunity to learn more about the services Expatica's website offers to those living in the Netherlands and ten other countries/locations. A member of Expatica's Sales and Marketing team believes “the Job Fair for Internationals is a great team effort. The recruiters, service providers, and sponsors all work hard to make this event a positive experience for everyone. Successfully connecting skilled candidates with exciting companies is a job well done.”

Expatica also welcomed questions regarding the event itself and the exhibitors and recruiters present. Traffic Manager, Yitian, was present at the Expatica stand; "very glad to answer some of the questions of young expats who attended" and found it "easy to relate to visitors" being an expatriate herself.

"It really was a successful edition of the Job Fair for Internationals" reports Assistant Fair Manager, Marjanneke. "I spoke to many enthusiastic visitors who had gained useful information and had seen interesting job vacancies. I even saw expats making new friends."

Visitors remarked that they were pleased to meet the Expatica team and to hear about the other services Expatica offer alongside employment, such as Housing and Healthcare information, Education and Dating for expats.

International job fair: employment

Something to remember you by

With a good range of exhibitors attending the event, job seekers were able to gain a wide range of information regarding the current job market. When purchasing a ticket online for the event, visitors were given the opportunity to provide exhibitors and recruiters with further information about their working history, current skills and abilities. With past events resulting in several success stories of individuals finding employment, the seventh edition looked promising!

This year professional photographer Ronald from Fotostudio Van der Horst was also present at the fair, taking profile pictures of visitors. The images can then be used by the job seekers to update their LinkedIn profiles, increasing their chances of finding suitable employment.

Operations Manager, Danielle believes that “the Expatica team always welcomes opportunities to speak with its readers and members of the international community in general. It allows us to do what we do best, help expats to get the information and services they need, in a live setting. This Job Fair for Internationals was the perfect event to do just that. We talked to and helped out expats from all over the world with a wide range of questions, some of whom found leads to interesting vacancies on our job portal.”
