Five business schools, four continents, one programme (sponsored contribution) Diversity is a word which can be truly applied to this year’s class for the Global Executive OneMBA Programme at Rotterdam School of Management.

“The One MBA programme is a fascinating concept.  Being part of a diverse group of people with long-standing work experience is a great opportunity to expand my professional horizon. I am truly happy about my decision to join this programme.” With these words Jantine Jacobi summarised her experience of the first week of the Global Executive OneMBA Programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

 



The Global Executive OneMBA Programme commenced in September at RSM. The programme sees collaboration from five business schools across four continents. This year, the RSM class comprises 41 students from 11 different nationalities. According to Rick Rudolph, Deputy Director, Marketing and Admissions at RSM, the admissions team is thrilled with this year’s intake. “We are delighted that the local class represents total diversity - in professional, educational and cultural backgrounds,” he said. He added that the calibre of these students is of a standard that will facilitate valuable class interaction and engagement.

These qualities are what drew Simon Ames to the Programme. “This was exactly what I expected – the class interaction was excellent and the different backgrounds of students ensured dynamic conversations.” He explained that participants from different businesses spoke in different ways. “My experience of the programme has been complex, but very enriching so far. “

The RSM OneMBA students spent a week in Rotterdam engaging in classes that focused mainly on personal leadership development. Areas covered included Listening to lead; Leadership and communication; Leading through conflict and Communication and negotiation. They then moved to Washington DC for one of the four global residencies where they met with their global peers and engaged in a week of extensive academic interaction. Classes covered topics ranging from Global business environment and Responsible capitalism to Entrepreneurship. Further residencies will take place in Sao Paulo, Mexico, Rotterdam and Hong Kong during the course of the programme.

Saskia Treurniet, Director OneMBA Programme, feels that the new RSM OneMBA class has again proven to be an outstanding and diverse group of people who have become part of the exciting extended network of the Global Executive OneMBA programme. She said that the students have already become familiar with the impressive community of knowledge and experience within their local peer-environment and that their first global residency in Washington was the platform for many engaging sessions and discussions with their global team members. “Needless to say that the topic 'global business environment' was looked at from many different perspectives, especially since we witnessed  first hand the impact of the financial challenges our hosting country were faced with, and with that, the world economy,” she concluded.
