Dear Expert,

I reside in the Netherlands since August 2009. First, as an MA student at UvA. After graduation my partner got a job and we decided to stay here. He is a European citizen and I applied for residency papers as his partner. I got a kind of temporary stamp sometime in September 2011. I was told that the decision regarding my residency takes 6 months at the most. Tomorrow, this time is expiring. Meanwhile, I got a job as well. What can I do? Continue to wait for the decision?

Best,
R

Dear Rad,

processing times are very long currently, and it is difficult to accelerate this. If your salary qualifies for the knowledge migrant scheme (kennismigrant, KMR) and your employer has a KMR registration, you can apply for the kennismigrant permit which is granted in two weeks. Expensive, but fast. You could also decide to litigate, it would be a strong case.

Take good care,

Hi Guido!

I rent an apartment with inclusive services (electricity, gas etc). The landlord hasn't paid the electricity and gas company for 6mths. Every time I raise the issue with the landlord he says that the bill is resolved, but two months ago a representative of the company visited the apartment and threatened to cut off services if the bill isn't paid ASAP. Each week I receive letters to the landlord from the company and debt collectors.

What can I do, please?

Thank you!

I have rented an apartment in Lindenlaan, Amstelveen in February 2011 through rental agency. Apparently the owner is not paying loan and bank has put up notice that this apartment is on sell from 11th June. I want to know as tenant, what rights I have here because I have paid the agency 1 months rent as a brokarage fees as well.

Hi,
Can you guide me what I can claim as I'm working in Dutch waters and my office is in Holland and I'm a UK resident. I'm getting the 30% ruling and child benefit due to my position as Chief engineer. Can i claim my morgage interest or any thing else?
Thanks,
Gordon Wood

I am going to rent an apartment. The agency only gives me a contract in English, saying there is no Dutch version. Is this legal? Is an English contract valid? They also want me to sign an extra letter saying in case I misbehave or do not pay the rent, they can kick me out without going to court. Is this legal? And they want the first payment before signing the contract. I understand that in NL once they have said they will rent to me, they cannot easily change their mind. Can I rely on this?

Dear Sir,

I suffer of coeliac disease and I would like to know if the basic health insurance covers the costs of dietary gluten free products. I read on my insurance booklet that I must refer to the Dutch Health Care Insurance Regulations, but I don't understand Dutch. Hope you can help me.

Best regards,
