Total lunar eclipse on Saturday 02/03/2007 00:00

2 March 2007

AMSTERDAM – The total lunar eclipse will be visible in the Netherlands between 11.45 p.m. and 1.00 a.m. on Saturday night.

The shadow of the earth will first start to appear on the moon at about 10.30 p.m.

The eclipse, which will be visible to the naked eye, will make the moon appear an orange-red colour, space agency ESA announced on Thursday.

The lunar eclipse will be visible in the eastern United States, Africa, western Asia and Europe until 3.25 a.m.

It is still doubtful whether the weather will be very cooperative. There is a very good chance of rain on Saturday and clouds are forecast. The meteorological institute KNMI predicts that the skies should clear up in the evening, with any luck.

The lunar eclipse coincides with the 31st annual National Stargazing Days. Seventy observatories will open their doors for the event.
