SP argues for network of express buses 03/12/2007 00:00

3 December 2007

AMSTERDAM - The Socialist SP wants a national network of express buses to provide transport in areas where train service is not available.

SP MP Emile Roemer will present this proposal during the debate on the budget for the transport ministry this week.

A network of express buses running on motorways, with changeover points on the edges of cities and at industrial terrains, is feasible, the SP says. The format and conditions should be the same throughout the country, the party says.

Interliner buses first sprang up in the 1990s, but no more investment was put into these express buses because of the liberalisation of the public transport sector. Roemer says a well organised network of express buses can make many car journeys unnecessary.
