Part-time entrepreneurs to get a break 01/06/2007 00:00

1 June 2007

THE HAGUE – Minister for Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven wants to allow employees who set up a business part time to benefit from tax breaks.

Sources close to the cabinet have confirmed a report on the plan in the Financieele Dagblad.  This is one of the measures that the cabinet wants to include in its policy programme in an effort to promote entrepreneurship.

Part time entrepreneurs are only eligible at the moment for fiscal incentives like tax breaks for business starters and the self-employed and the profit exemption if they put at least 1,225 hours into their own business each year.

The cabinet would like to make this "hour requirement" more flexible. The FNV trade union confederation urged for this earlier this year and State secretary for Economic Affairs Frank Heemskerk responded positively to the plan at the time.
