MPs want explanation on Hirsi Ali 02/10/2007 00:00

2 October 2007

THE HAGUE – Parliament will not be holding an emergency debate on Ayaan Hirsi Ali's return to the Netherlands but it does want a letter from the cabinet on the Ayaan Hirsi Ali's security. The former MP is back in the Netherlands because the country no longer wants to pay for her protection in the US.

The justice department has refrained from comment thus far. Parliament wants Minister Hirsch Ballin to explain in the letter what has been decided regarding Hirsi Ali's protection and the basis for that decision. Parliament also wants clarification on the agreements that have been made with the American authorities and with Hirsi Ali.

The letter should also inform Parliament whether Hirsi Ali's security in the Netherlands is guaranteed. She is currently staying at a secret address.
