Candy and soft-drink vending machines should be expelled from schools. Nor should school canteens sell greasy snacks, but rather healthy breakfasts and lunches. Eight in ten schools have candy and/or soft-drink vending machines on the premises.
A special traffic unit should be established in the Rijnmond region to streamline traffic around the Rotterdam port. Hans Smits, director of the Rotterdam Port, says this in the Volkskrant on Monday. He says traffic congestion is a major threat to the competitive position of the Rotterdam port. "We have to treat the traffic jams as if there is a World Cup match or World Fair in Rotterdam every day. That requires a different administrative structure."
Labour PvdA MP Diederik Samsom argues in the Telegraaf for a free internet connection on Intercity trains. This would make train travel more attractive to commuters, students and businesspeople who would otherwise drive. "You can make use of internet on your laptop or mobile phone at many NS stations. But you lose the connection once the train leaves the station," Samsom says.
