IND works towards more rapid issuance of student travel visas and residence permits

1 November 2006

THE HAGUE  - Immigrations and Naturalisation Service (IND) has up to and including August handled in total 5358 recommendation requests from foreign students who want to study this year in the Netherlands. That is more than in the same months of 2005 (4641) and 2004 (4318).

The IND strives be able to deliver the student permits more rapidly (firstly a travel visa and afterwards a residence permit). An experiment in Utrecht where students requested the residence permit by means of their education institution directly at the IND proves to be a success.

Formerly the student had to go to the municipality. On Monday the first 126 residence permits were distributed within the framework of the experiment.
