Marechaussee catch human trafficker 02/11/2007 00:00

2 November 2007

ARNHEM – The Marechausssee intercepted a car of Bulgarians on the A12 at the border with Germany this week. A 13-year-old girl was among those in the car. She was reportedly being brought to the Netherlands to be forced to work as a prostitute.

The child turned out to be pregnant and is now in the care of youth services, a spokesperson for the Marechaussee reported on Friday.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking. The other passengers, a man and woman aged 24 and 27, were released after being taken in for questioning.

The Marechaussee regularly keeps an eye out for foreigners crossing the border. Agents on motorcycle choose cars on the motorway for checks.
