Charles visits Dutch troops in Bosnia 02/03/2007 00:00

2 March 2007

AMSTERDAM – The Dutch troops stationed in Bosnia as part of the Welsh Guards of the Multinational Battle Group received an important visit on Thursday.

British Crown Prince Charles and his wife Camilla visited the troops on the occasion of St. David's Day, according to the defence ministry in The Hague.

The Prince of Wales is the regiment commander of the Welsh Guards; David is the patron saint of Wales.

The Dutch company is stationed in Bosnia as part of the European peace-keeping force (EUFOR). Many of the EUFOR troops will depart from the region since the situation in Bosnia-Herzegonvina has improved. Most of the Dutch troops will also return in March and April.

Only 90 Dutch soldiers will stay on in Bosnia as part of the Liaison Observation Teams. The Dutch will also remain active in the EUFOR headquarters in Sarajevo and as part of the International Police Unit.
