ANWB warns of Sinterklaas traffic 03/12/2007 00:00

3 December 2007

THE HAGUE – The ANWB is advising motorists to take a day off work on Wednesday in order to prevent "Sinterklaas evening traffic jams."

The automobile association announced this on Monday.

In 2006 more than 500 km of traffic came to a standstill on the afternoon of 5 December. Many people hoped to avoid rush hour traffic and therefore left work two hours earlier. The only result was that the rush hour occurred earlier than usual.

Traffic near Amsterdam and Rotterdam in particular was at a standstill by early afternoon. The only way to be home on time for the good saint's visit is to stay home all day, says the ANWB.
