Thousands apply for sustainable energy subsidy 02/04/2008 00:00

Almost 4,000 people have applied for a subsidy for sustainable energy.

2 April 2008

THE NETHERLANDS - Nearly 4,000 people in The Netherlands have applied for a subsidy for sustainable energy.

Funds are only available for around 7,000 of the applicants, and the money will be shared out on a first-come first-served basis.

For people who are too late to apply this year, there will be another opportunity next year.

The measure is aimed at stimulating the use of sustainable energy. The subsidy does not contribute to the cost of installing solar panels or wind turbines themselves, but to the energy generated. This makes it possible to recoup the investment over a period of 15 years.
