THE HAGUE – The 250 post offices in the Netherlands were closed for several hours on Wednesday morning. The postal workers were protesting plans to close all locations. All 2,400 employees are in danger of losing their jobs.

The employees held meetings this morning, and in the course of the morning the locations finally opened. A demonstration was held in the early afternoon in Utrecht at the post office on the Neude.

The post offices are being shut down because TNT Post and ING, which also owns the Postbank, want to offer their services separately from now on.
