23 April 2008

THE HAGUE - TNT postal workers in The Hague are on strike on Wednesday. The postal workers won't be delivering any mail on Wednesday other than mourning cards and important medical correspondence.

The strike in The Hague marks the beginning of a whole series of actions by TNT workers for a pay increase. On Friday, TNT postal workers in Amsterdam are scheduled to lay down their work.

If TNT and the unions don't reach an agreement by the end of May, a nationwide strike will follow. The unions are demanding a pay increase of 3.5 percent.

Up till now TNT has only been prepared to offer 1.5 percent now, and another 1.5 in January 2009.
