No mail for The Hague and Amsterdam residents next week 17/04/2008 00:00

TNT postal workers go on strike in response to failure for higher wages on Wednesday and Friday.

17 April 2008

Employees of Dutch mail company TNT are to take relay strike action in response to the failure of negotiations on a new collective labour agreement.

Next Wednesday, there will be no mail delivery in The Hague, and two days later it will be Amsterdam residents who find their letterboxes empty.

The action will be followed by a national strike on 27 May. Last week, TNT employees also staged a protest at a shareholders meeting.

The unions are demanding a 3.5 percent pay rise. TNT thinks this is too high and says it is not prepared to improve its present offer. The negotiations on the new collective labour agreement have been going on for more than a year.
