Microsoft sues Dutch mother 22/04/2008 00:00

The software giant is suing the mother for developing an anti-chat programme known as MSN-LOCK.

22 April 2008

Microsoft has issued a summons against a Dutch woman who developed an anti-chat programme.

The woman, who lives in Lochem, developed the programme so that she could monitor and record her children's online chats. She then sold the programme, which she called Benzoy, to other parents.

However, the programme is also known as MSN-LOCK, a reference to the Microsoft chat program MSN.

The software giant says that this is an infringement of its copyright and is demanding that the name MSN-LOCK be withdrawn. It is also demanding that all registered domain names including the letters 'MSN' be handed over to it.
