22 April 2008
THE NETHERLANDS - The Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions expects 3.5 million Dutch to take a vacation in the next two weeks.
This year, Queen's Day falls on 30 April, Ascension Day on 1 May and Whit Monday (Whitsun) on 12 May.
The three public holidays all fall during the May school holiday, which means many primary and secondary schools will be closed for more than two weeks.
The Board expects that half of the holidaymakers will stay in The Netherlands.
The Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB expects massive tailbacks will form on Thursday and Friday on roads leading east and toward the coast.
