14 April 2008

ROTTERDAM - The Rotterdam Marathon has been won by the Kenyan William Kipsang in a course record of 2 hours 5 minutes and 48 seconds.

Kenyan runners also took second and third place. Daniel Rono came in at 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds while his compatriot Charles Kamathi came in at 2 hours 7 minutes and 33 seconds.

Dutch runners had a disappointing day. Koen Raymaekers was the first of the Dutch runners to cross the finishing line, completing the course in 14th place with a time of just over 2 hours and 15 minutes. Luc Krotwaar came in 17th.

However, neither was within the Olympic cut-off mark of 2 hours and 10 minutes, and will not be going to Beijing.
