TOKYO – The Japanese ministry of foreign affairs called the Dutch and Australian ambassadors to account on Monday after an anti-whaling action by the Sea Shepherd organisation.

Sea Shepherd is waging a campaign using the ship the Steve Irwin, which is registered in the Netherlands and has its home port in Australia.

Japan says that three crew members on a Japanese whaling ship were injured on Monday by a corrosive acid with which members of the radical environmentalist group Sea Shepherd sprayed the Japanese ship for an hour.

The Japanese ministry of foreign affairs then urged the Dutch and Australian ambassadors to take measures to prevent further violence.
