22 January 2008

AMSTERDAM - Iran has indicated that there will be consequences if Geert Wilders' film on the Koran is actually broadcast. Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the council for foreign affairs, said this to American news channel Fox.

The politician promises that widespread protest will take place and that Iran will have to re-examine its relationship with the Netherlands if Wilders' film is broadcast.

Insults to the Koran will be taken very seriously and there will be hate targeting the country that allows this message to be spread, Boroujerdi said.

No date has yet been announced for the presentation of the film. Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende has already said he cannot ban the film from being shown.
