AMSTERDAM – Half of the Dutch population feels that the neighbourhood in which they live is deteriorating. Residents of cities, particular those living in problem neighbourhoods, encounter the most nuisance.

The largest annoyance is dog dirt on the street, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported Wednesday.

70 percent of the residents of problem neighbourhoods say that their neighbourhood is deteriorating, compared to 55 percent of the residents of other city neighbourhoods.

More than one third of the Dutch are annoyed at the dog dirt that is not cleaned up, the CBS reports. One in five people are annoyed by the junk left on the street by others and 16 percent are bothered by the vandalism of bus and tram shelters.
