Saturday, April 12 : EXPAT DAY IN THE STATENKWARTIER

Thirty per cent  foreign residents in a neighborhood has a large impact on it. Unfortunately there is little integration among the different groups. The Neighborhood Affairs Committee of the Statenkwartier would like to remedy that situation.

To that end it is organizing an EXPAT DAY on Saturday, April 12, from 15:00 to 19:30, in ”De Sierkan”, The Hague (neighborhood center at Antonie Heinsiusstraat 3, across from the Gemeentemuseum).

Walking tour and photo contest

Mixed groups including expats and Dutch residents can participate in a walking tour of the neighborhood – led by multilingual guides. Participants will learn interesting information and historical facts and will increase their appreciation of “everyday “ spots which they pass frequently. During the walking tour everyone will be encouraged to make photos which will be projected at the ‘drinks and snacks’get-together at the end of the afternoon. How will the expat view compare with the “native“ view? A prize will be awarded.

Children’s activities

The walking tours are organized for adults, but children will not be forgotten. An afternoon of activities will be led by the writer from New Zealand,  Kathy Voyles. Kathy is known for her book “Meneertje Hond – Dear Mr. Dog” and her efforts to make the city more “child friendly”. ( See  www.kidsinthecity.org  )

Volunteers and sponsors are needed

Since this is a ‘pilot project’, we have chosen to work with a small organizing group. A larger group of volunteers will be needed to lead the tours, arrange the reception afterwards and jugde the photo contest.
