Dutch traffic fines raised by 20 percent 01/04/2008 00:00

Increase includes adjustments to inflation rate

1 April 2008

NETHERLANDS - Dutch traffic fines have been raised by 20 percent.

Every two years, these fines are adjusted for inflation, but this time an extra increase was introduced.

Not wearing a seat belt will, in future, set motorists back EUR 90 instead of 75, and driving through a red light will go up from EUR 130 to 150.

More than 12 million traffic fines were issued last year.
