Dutch internet shopping up by 40 percent 01/04/2008 00:00

Consumers are increasingly buying goods and services with turnover of EUR four billion.

1 April 2008

NETHERLANDS - Dutch consumers are increasingly buying goods and services via the internet. Turnover has grown to close to EUR four billion, an increase of nearly 40 percent compared to last year.

The Dutch organisation for businesses that sell on the internet says the increase is mainly due to increased consumer confidence in the security of transactions.

Almost half the internet turnover involved travel. Taking out insurance via the internet is also popular with consumers, as are toys, computers and software. The average on-line shopper spends around EUR 500 a year.
