The poll of more than 1,000 expatriates also reveals that more than 75 percent believe strongly in the royal family.

THE NETHERLANDS - A poll conducted by Radio Netherlands Worldwide has revealed that a large majority of Dutch expatriates still believe strongly in the Dutch royal family.

The poll of more than 1,000 expatriates and emigrants revealed that more than three quarters want the royal family to be retained, chiefly because it is "good for the unity of the Dutch people".

Some 72 percent of those polled also said that they feel the image of the House of Orange has a positive influence on business conducted abroad, while 50 percent say the royal family should retain, at the very least, a ceremonial function.

Asked to name their favourite royal family member, 18 percent picked Queen Beatrix, 17 percent chose Princess Maxima and eight percent named her husband and The Netherlands Crown Prince Willem-Alexander.
