5 May 2008

THE NETHERLANDS - The new leader of the Labour Party in the Lower House of the Dutch parliament says all employees in The Netherlands should take a test every five years to determine whether they receive sufficient training.

Mariëtte Hamer believes that proper training will keep employees up to date and competitive. It will be particularly be useful to such vulnerable groups as the young handicapped, the elderly, minorities and women.

Hamer also told Parliament that the current state of the global economy makes many people uncertain about their jobs and the security of their society.

She said that it is vitally important to take such fears seriously, but warned against the "half-baked measures" and "spurious solutions" of the Socialist Party, Geert Wilders' Party for Freedom and Rita Verdonk’s Proud of the Netherlands movement.
