Christian democrat CDA minister Piet Hein Donner of Social Affairs said after the meeting that the parties "were still in discussion." He did not want to comment on whether he is optimistic about reaching an accord. The other meeting participants yesterday avoided the press.
Donner presented a new compromise proposal at the meeting, say insiders. It was dismissed by the Labour PvdA however. The ChristenUnie had criticism but also saw positive points in the plan. So far the PvdA and ChristenUnie have been in agreement, though the PvdA has taken a firmer stance.
